Crystal Ball

by Paul Fogarty

/

about

revisit of a song I wrote around 1986 or so. I played it at a country music festival talent contest and all the other contestants loved the song - the judges not so much. Well, it ain't a country song.

lyrics

After many years of wondering
I finally realise
that the earth is inside a crystal ball
and we are very small
and every day is a blink of an eye
and the moon is just a hole
and the earth is some kind of experiment
and we have lost all control
and the rain falls down on the streets of the towns
and the forest trees turn gold
and the people won’t understand it
until they are too old
and the sky is mauve coloured
blues and greys and the cloud ships sailing by
and the young folk say “how beautiful”
at least once before they die
I don’t mind the rain
I don’t mind the rain
it don’t bring me no sorrow
don’t bring me no pain
