Freight Train

by Paul Fogarty

/

about

I wrote this song during a break in giving guitar lessons - one of my students was a no-show so I had half an hour and wrote "Freight Train"

lyrics

Every time I see your face I feel how undone I have become
your eyes make their own fingertip trace
in case the parts are greater than the sum
a nerve of steel still ain't equipped to feel every limit
to my pleasure and my pain
I would not sympathise with any talk of compromise
here's where you run me over like a freight train

Maybe I am forsaken like a blind man in the rain
and maybe I am mistaken all over again
baby don't come raking through what's left of my remains
here's where you run me over like a freight train

and if you ever get back from Palookaville
if you could ever stand to see my face again
I'll be the one in the corner with a hole cut out of my heart
I ain't the man, I ain't the man that you once knew
and if you ever get lonely won't you write so I can know
there are so few things to be thankful for these days
but don't you send it to me here somebody's opening all my mail
like I said I ain't the man, I ain't the man you once knew
